Episode Ten: Xi Omega Chapter, the Decade of 2010 - 2023

The years 2011 to 2023 reveal societal unease as the fabric of the United States is stretched due to racial tensions, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the attack on the U. S. Capitol. It is also a time when the first African American presidency comes to an end, and later, an Alpha Kappa Alpha Woman becomes Vice President.
Xi Omega Chapter continued its focus on programming tailored to the needs of the community and deftly pivoted service delivery in the midst of the global pandemic.

As the U.S. grapples with the deadly 911 attacks and the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina, a sense of hope comes from the election of the first African American president: Barack Obama. 
 

Episode Eight: Xi Omega Chapter, the Decade of the 1990s

As Nelson Mandela becomes South Africa’s first Black president and as new and innovative technologies become available to the masses in the United States, Xi Omega Chapter holds math and science summer camps for area youngsters.

Episode Seven: Xi Omega Chapter, the Decade of the 1980s

The United States contends with a recession and HIV/AIDS becomes the number one global threat to public health. In Washington, DC, the women of Xi Omega Chapter register voters and march on the South African Embassy to protest apartheid.

Episode Six: Xi Omega Chapter, the Decade of the 1970s

As the Watergate scandal engulfs the nation, the women of Xi Omega Chapter also focus on summer programs for youth, enhanced community service, and expanding the sisterhood by welcoming new chapters throughout the city.

Episode Five: Xi Omega Chapter, the Decade of the 1960s

As the country faces divisiveness, protests, and cultural events that will define future generations, Xi Omega women march for civil rights and provide hands-on academic enrichment to school children in the District of Columbia.

As the Civil Rights Movement grows throughout the United States, Xi Omega Chapter focuses on health care, education and economic opportunity for Negroes in the Washington, DC community.
